Saucy Digicel Look

Purpose alignment

I have been experiencing so many changes lately that my head has been spinning.

But through it all, I must say that I’ve been incredibly blessed. Get this! I’ve changed jobs twice in the last 3-4 months! For both, I was headhunted, the second one, quite aggressively after I had refused them in early May 2019.

Anyways, that’s a story for another day. Let’s get to the meat of what’s on my mind today. I started at Digicel, a top telecommunications company in my country, on September 2. I’m still trying to figure out how I agreed to this when it involved moving from my remote job and doing a longer commute. I must say they and God are quite persuasive 😅.

On September 3, I had a weird experience. Yes, weird! I had just gotten off my bus and was making my way towards the office when a red car passed me and a voice yelled “Digicel!” My initial reaction was that this must have been one of the many persons I had met on my first day so I waved and smiled. To my surprise, the car stopped at a Stop sign a few meters away, waiting. A man stuck his head out and asked “You’re not coming?”

Curious, I walked closer to the vehicle to check if I recognized the face. Two men sat in the vehicle. I recognized neither. The driver repeated his former question. I stopped puzzled until I felt an internal prod telling me to go. I got in. Obviously I’m crazy 🙄.

A snippet of our discussion:

Me: “How do you know I work at Digicel?”

Driver: “Because you have the Digicel saucy look…”

Me (puzzled): “Saucy look?”

Driver: “Yeah. I don’t know how to explain it but you have that look.”

Me (still puzzled and looking down at what I am wearing): “That’s weird. I don’t see how I have a Digicel saucy look when I literally started yesterday. No man! You must have seen me at Digicel!”

Driver’s Friend: “No man! You just have that look.”

Driver: “Congrats on the new job.”

It turned out that even though these men weren’t going my way, they dropped me off at my destination before continuing on their way.

Now let’s get to the why of this story. It’s not the first time I’ve heard that I have a look. When I taught Sunday School and volunteered as a teacher, I was often referred to as “teacher” or “missionary” by strangers. Before taking this job or even agreeing to talk with my future boss, I prayed and utilized the Gideon technique to ensure I was in alignment with God. Honestly, I was reluctant to switch jobs twice within a short period! God gave me the go-ahead each time I enquired and so here I am today with the “Digicel-saucy” look.

That’s the thing about purpose alignment. It brands you properly. When you are aligned with God, even strangers will see and recognize the label that God has deemed fit for you during your current season.

Have you ever had an experience in which you were recognized by your current label? I would love to hear about it. Tell me about it in the Comments section below.

Hi, I`m Chañel. I used to be a people-pleaser who gave 200% because of my love for people. As a result, I almost lost my mind and my life. Today, my goal is to make sure people stop putting themselves last. And, if possible, never experience what I went through!
