Isaiah 36:4 NLT
Then the Assyrian king’s chief of staff told them to give this message to Hezekiah: “This is what the great king of Assyria says: What are you trusting in that makes you so confident?
Observation (s):
- Hezekiah’s confidence in God was so evident that even the Assyrian king was puzzled by it.
Then the Assyrian king’s chief of staff told them to give this message to Hezekiah: “This is what the great king of Assyria says: What are you trusting in that makes you so confident?
Application:
Every time we sit on a couch or chair, we are trusting that it will support our weight. Every time we placed a phone to our ear, we are trusting that it won’t malfunction or explode. Every time we get behind the wheel of a car, we are trusting that the drivers around us will keep their feet on the brake and ours won’t fail. Every night we go to bed with plans for tomorrow, we are trusting that we will wake in the morning.
All of these actions of trust but little thought given to the core of whom we are trusting in. What are you trusting in that makes you so confident that these everyday routine matters will operate without question? Some will quickly say, their abilities but what about the things that are outside the realms of our abilities, such as waking up each morning? It could only be God!
Hezekiah’s situation was not a routine matter but he still chose to trust God. His confidence in God was so evident that it forced the Assyrian king to question the source of his confidence. Oh, if only we could be like Hezekiah! Our trust in God should be so evident that it becomes a point of wonder to the people around us and source of bewilderment for our enemies. If we can blindly trust God for matters of routine, why can’t we trust Him to take care of the matters that are vital to us?
