Focus Chapters:
- Psalms 35-38
Standout Verse(s):
Psalms 37:7 NLT
Be still in the presence of the Lord,
and wait patiently for him to act.
Don’t worry about evil people who prosper
or fret about their wicked schemes.
Observation (s):
- Learn to be still and wait patiently for God to act. Don’t get caught up with comparing your “poor” situation to that of the “prosperity” of the wicked.
Be still in the presence of the Lord,
and wait patiently for him to act.
Don’t worry about evil people who prosper
or fret about their wicked schemes.
Application:
I once I had the opportunity to observe two plants growing in the same patch of soil. The pumpkin plant seemed to grow quickly, spreading its vines everywhere, producing fruit. The lime tree on the other hand seemed to struggle. Overtime, I noticed something. The pumpkin plant begun to decline as insects made it their home. Eventually it died while the lime continued to grow steadily into its bearing season. It makes one wonder: what would have happened if the lime tree constantly compared itself to the pumpkin tree? What would have happened if the lime tree had become discouraged and felt daunted by the pumpkin tree’s rapid growth?
Don’t compare yourself to others during your waiting or barren seasons. Don’t fall into the trap of comparing the state of your situations to that of others you deem less worthy. Don’t fret over the prosperity of the wicked. Like the pumpkin tree, their season of reckoning will come. Instead, focus on God and the promises He has made to you. Be still and wait patiently and uncomplainingly for Him to act. Know that your wait will be well worth it!
