- Application:
At age 20, about a year and a half after I started a new church, I was appointed Assistant Youth Secretary. I wonder “why?”. At age 21, I accidentally ended up teaching CSEC English Language to a group of students at my church’s evening institute that gave adults a second chance at passing the exam. I often wondered, “how did I end up doing this?”. At age 23, I was asked to be an assistant teacher for the Intermediate Sunday School class (teaching teenagers). Again, I wondered “why?”. At age 24, I was a part of a volunteer team that focused on defining and reshaping the organizational culture of my workplace. Oftentimes I wondered “how I ended up in the midst of this?”. Since then, I learned to accept that God tends to place you where you will excel in your purpose and impact His people.
Solomon was a young king. He was crowned during a season when his brothers and elders conspired to take his crown. Like us, he must have had seasons when he pondered the reasons why he was placed in that position. King Hiram’s message to Solomon serves as a reminder that God is all-knowing. He understands our inner desires and purpose and thus, loves his people enough to place us in positions where we can not only self-actualize (fulfil our purpose and potential) but impact as many of His people as possible.
Don’t ponder the reason that God has placed you in the position or season that you are in. Trust that He understands you well enough to guide you to self-actualization. That said, if you are in a season where you are not neither self-actualizating nor impacting others, it may be time for you to check if you are still being guided by the Lord.
