Focus Chapters:
- Leviticus 9-11
Standout Verse(s):
Leviticus 11:45 NLT
For I, the Lord, am the one who brought you up from the land of Egypt, that I might be your God. Therefore, you must be holy because I am holy.
Observation (s):
- God wants us to acknowledge our relationship with Him.
For I, the Lord, am the one who brought you up from the land of Egypt, that I might be your God.
- If we accept God as our God, we are called to be holy, a stipulation stressed because of His holiness.
Therefore, you must be holy because I am holy.
Application:
In 2018, the European Union launched the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) whose stipulations cover any organizations that interact with or host data from its citizens. These institutions can be fined heavily if they are found to be in violation of the regulations. In other words, the EU demanded that these corporations, “be compliant or else“. Educational and financial institutions all have stipulations which must be met in order for persons to maintain their memberships. For example in order for me to maintain my professional certifications, I am required to complete activities that will factor towards my good standing. In other words, we are required to “maintain good standing or else“. As a citizen of any country we are expected to behave in a certain manner and pay certain taxes. If not, we can be fined or branded a traitor. In other words, we are required to “follow the laws or else“.
If these earthly institutions have the power to lay down stipulations that we must adhere to, is it so unreasonable of God to do the same? God is our God!
We consider ourselves a part of His kingdom. We have seen His glory and power. He has demonstrated His authority and has brought us a mighty long way. All He requests in return is our adherence to His holiness standards. Be holy because your God is holy.
