Now the Lord said to Moses, “Make two trumpets of hammered silver for calling the community to assemble and for signaling the breaking of camp. When both trumpets are blown, everyone must gather before you at the entrance of the Tabernacle.But if only one trumpet is blown, then only the leaders—the heads of the clans of Israel—must present themselves to you.

“When you arrive in your own land and go to war against your enemies who attack you, sound the alarm with the trumpets. Then the Lord your God will remember you and rescue you from your enemies. Blow the trumpets in times of gladness, too, sounding them at your annual festivals and at the beginning of each month. And blow the trumpets over your burnt offerings and peace offerings. The trumpets will remind your God of his covenant with you. I am the Lord your God.”

Observation (s):

1. The sound of the trumpets was used to give directions to the Israelites.

2. During joyful times, the sound of the trumpets was used as a means of celebrating or demonstrating solemnity.
   
   

   Blow the trumpets in times of gladness, too, sounding them at your annual festivals and at the beginning of each month. And blow the trumpets over your burnt offerings and peace offerings.

   
   
3. God is also listening for our signals. The sound of the trumpet could be a call of alarm for him to rise up and fight for his people.

Application:

We are surrounded by signals that we are taught to listen for and understand, then act. Every morning at 7:45, my high school would play the Jamaican national anthem. Each student, no matter where they were, once they could hear the recording was expected to stand at attention in patriotic pride. At a universal level, the siren of an ambulance means “make way, there is an emergency”. No matter where you are, when you hear the blaring of an ambulance, you were taught to clear the way for it to proceed unimpeded.

The trumpets God instructed Moses to build were used to send physical and spiritual signals. Depending on the nature of the sound, it became a command to the Israelites to: Assemble, Break camp, Rejoice or Show solemnity. During war, the sound morphed into a distress call to God, to intercede and fight on behalf of his people. This method was successful because:

1. The people and God learned to listen for the sound of the trumpet
2. The people and God understood the meaning of each sound
3. The people and God reacted based on the sound.

Today, we don’t have physical trumpets but we are still called to listen and react to the spiritual signals given to us or sound our own alarms to get God’s attention. Do you know the signals God uses when He gives you directions? Does God know and understand the signals you use to get his attention and intercession?
