Healing the Psychological Wounds of Caribbean Slavery

We equip Caribbean communities to break free from generational trauma, fostering emotional wellness and healing the psychic wounds of slavery. Our mission: create as many Caribbean pink flamingoes as possible.

The Body Keeps Score

Addressing Generational Trauma

Slavery was abolished in the British Caribbean on August 1, 1834. The last Caribbean country declared independence on September 19, 1983. But the psychological wounds remain deeply embedded in individuals, children, families and communities. We see the social effects of these wounds manifesting in various ways:

Men Forced Into Emotional Silence

Caribbean men were abused and forced to feel powerless. To become emotionless "studs". Unable to protect their families from harm. Today, many still struggle to show up in relationships or show up emotionally despite loving their families deeply.

Women Carrying Unnecessary Burdens

Caribbean women were sexually assaulted. Forced to become strong and emotionless. To protect their families when their men couldn't. This pattern continues - with women so busy being providers they don't have time to acknowledge and express their emotions.

People Who Can't Love Themselves

Successful men and women ripped from their countries and given the identity of slaves. Today many successful Caribbean people have self-worth issues and struggle to love themselves. This affects how they perceive themselves and interact with others.

Issues That Divide Caribbean Societies

High rates of: violence, suicide, single-parent homes, distant spouses, anxiety, sexual abuse, addictions, you name it. We hear stories of senseless murders like lovers killing their ex after a breakup or a man stabbing and killing his nephew over a mango.

“The psychological wounds of slavery manifest as generational trauma that limits peace, joy and potential. We cannot heal what we do not acknowledge.”

Our Approach

We are creating a movement of emotional wellness that will ripple through generations, transforming families, communities, and nations through our four core initiatives.

Pink Flamingo Books & Resources

We create and distribute resources that help children and adults learn how to heal and care for their mental and emotional well-being. These are all practical tools for healing and empowerment

Emotional Wellness Workshops & Retreats

We sponsor emotional wellness workshops and retreats lead by grassroots organizations that work hands-on with Caribbean people. Aside from donations, 10% of profits from Pink Flamingo initiatives fund this work.

Access to Therapy

We send people to therapy so they get the emotional support needed to rebuild their lives and break free from generational trauma. The royalties from In Search of the Pink Flamingo send sexual abuse survivors to therapy.

Emo-Fit Program

We're developing the Emo-Fit Program, a curriculum program teaching children practical emotional fitness so they break free from generational trauma and leave a good emotional legacy for future generations.

Our Flock Takes Flight

Transforming Trauma Into Freedom

The body keeps score when the conscious minds forget. Every Pink Flamingo resource, therapy session, and workshop creates ripples of healing that transform generational wounds into generational wellness. Watch our flock grow as we work towards our 2025 goals:

Emo-Fit Program: Breaking the Cycle

Our boldest dream takes flight in the Emo-Fit curriculum. Imagine a generation of Caribbean children who know how to care for their emotional well-being as naturally as they breathe. Children who are confidently themselves - wearing their pink flamingo feathers proudly, free from the generational psychological wounds their parents and grandparents carried. This is how we heal today's pain and tomorrow's potential wounds before they form.

Stories of Transformation

Hear powerful stories from those who have experienced the impact of our work:

"These persons have been helped by your demonstration of genuine care for them, via your financial support, to take responsible action in seeking & being open to receiving therapeutic help. They have all described it as difference-making, & personally as well as relationally life-transforming.”

Leaford Henderson- Psychotherapist (Grassroot Partner In Jamaica)

"I've spoken to and mentored men and women who show up and look successful but mentally their entire world in burning down. They don’t feel seen or heard. They don't know how to cope emotional. They feel emotionally unsafe with their spouses, partners and family, even people who have been married for 30+ years. I've had experiences where grown adults break down and cry for the first time in years when they finally realize they can speak up and share on a psychological level.”

Chanel Robe-Pope- Founder

“Caribbean people are resilient. Slavery showed us that. But I’d very much love for us to not have to demonstrate our “resilience and strength” using the behaviors we adopted to cope and survive during our past slavery experiences.

I’d love to see us thrive on every level with patterns and behaviors that give us joy and peace on every level. That allow us to reach our full potential as we show up and serve others in ways that honor God’s plan for the Caribbean, honor our needs on every level and honor our neighbors. That’s the Caribbean I dream of.” – Chanel Robe – Founder
