“Chañel, give it all away to charity…” 🤔
The first time I heard the Holy Spirit whisper to me about the book’s proceeds. I ignored Him. I must have heard wrong.
He raised it multiple times over the next year. At some point, I began to bargain.
“God, how about 10%? I mean that’s a tithe. How about 30%? That seems reasonable.”
The soft answer always came back “How about all of it?”
3 weeks ago, He raised it once again. This time, something changed in me as I reflected on the times I’ve asked God to trust me with more and enlarge my territory for more generosity.
I said “YES!” without hesitation or grief. Then shared the news with my launch partners. (There was no way I was giving myself an out to change my mind!)
And so, there you have it. All proceeds from direct sales of “In Search of the Pink Flamingo” will be donated to charities that create emotional healing spaces to help the survivors of child sexual abuse in the Caribbean recover.
WHY: The Word Health Organization estimated that globally at least 150 million girls and 73 million boys under 18 years experienced sexual abuse. A study on child sexual abuse in the Caribbean found a disturbing picture of an escalating social problem that has serious short- and long-term physical, psychological, and social consequences on the victims, as well as on their families and the community as a whole.
I was one of those children. That experience at six years old robbed me of my essence and voice and limited my potential for greater impact in my family and community until I was almost 30.
I don’t know how much the book will make but one thing is clear. This book will help people reclaim their voices and embrace their pink flamingo selves directly and indirectly beyond my lifetime.
